U2 FLIGHTS 1961 OVER AUSTRALIA
To add to my other post (below) I received these two press cut bits of information from Dr Ron Barnett at Phenomena Research Australia, for your reference and
information. Thanks for the data.
U2 PILOT IN 2000 MILE SURVEY FLIGHT
"U2 pilot Lieutenant Colonel Hayden C. Curry, of the US Air Force, yesterday took colour shots of high altitude dust layers on a 2000 mile flight from East Sale over Antarctic pack ice.
He later reported his eight hour 15 minute survey mission as "uneventful".
The Lt Colonel Curry is commander of the operation ‘Crow Flight’ group at East Sale RAAF base.
His flight yesterday was the first in a month long series by U2s to collect upper air radioactivity samples over southern Australia waters and the mainland itself.
The colour shots will be used by the CSIRO in development of a theory on the effects of meteoritic dust on rain fall." The Age - 3rd of May 1961 - p7
And this:
US PLANE LEAVING
"A group of six United States Air Force planes which took part in this month’s upper air survey tests from east sale RAAF base left yesterday for Amberley Queensland.
They will wait there until tomorrow when three U2 high altitude jets still at East Sale will leave to return home to there base in the Untied States. The Age - 30th of May 1961 - p1
