Jeff Wells calls it a day
Jeff Wells' last column
By JEFF WELLS
Daily Telegraph, Australia - July 5, 2004
"I started as a racing details kid in Melbourne in 1960 and got to do some boxing and road and track cycling, which hooked me for life on those sports.
For the past 18 years I have been writing measured, considered, conservative prose - or, if you take the opposite view, a steaming pile of gibberish - in sports columns in Sydney. I also have on my CV: massage parlour roundsman for the Sunday Mirror with a $5 expense account, film reviewer for The Truth in Melbourne (the man who introduced the raincoat ratings), and UFO kidnap writer for the National Enquirer in Florida.
So I was well-schooled."
